Description

On Saturday, May 18, the Technology Learning Center’s data center, and all equipment inside it, will run on backup power for approximately 11 hours from 6 am to 5 pm while electrical upgrades are made to support third-party wireless services on campus. While all services in the data center will run on backup power during the install, there will be an elevated risk of power interruptions which could result in network outages (see Affected Services below).

Impact

All necessary precautions will be taken to maintain continuity of campus services; however, while the TLC data center is running on backup power from 6 am to 5 pm, there will be an elevated risk that campus services could experience outages. If the backup powers fails, there could be network performance issues experienced on the main campus as described below.

Affected Services

In the event of a complete power outage to all networking and telephony equipment located in the TLC, the following services would be impacted:

Network services (both wired and wireless) in the following buildings: Dal Ward, Carlson, Ketchum, UMC, University Club, Imig Music, Wardenburg, Environmental Design, Visual Arts Complex, Clare Small, Rec Center, Balch.

Wired network only in buildings that have subnets behind the following distribution firewalls: TCOM, MUEN, RGNT, ECON or HUM.

Analog phone lines: these are primarily used in elevator phones/call buttons and some fax machines.
