The new Teams client is a separate installation instead of an update to the Classic client. The Classic Teams client will not be uninstalled from your device when the new version is installed, so you will have two versions of Teams installed on your device. This allows you to move back and forth between "Classic Teams" and the new "Microsoft Teams (work and school)" client in case you experience any problems with the new client.

Once switched to the new Teams client, you can always switch back by going to the ellipsis (…) in top right corner of the application and toggling off the new Teams experience, which will switch you back to Classic Teams.
