Buff Portal Style Guide

It is important that campus communicators and providers of student resources use common language when describing Buff Portal. The Buff Portal Style Guide was created so you know how to describe Buff Portal in help materials and how-to videos for students.

Guidelines for Holds in Campus Solutions (Student-Facing Service Indicators)

Purpose

The purpose of this document is to provide guidance for descriptions of active, student-facing negative service indicators in Campus Solutions. These standards were developed and implemented by the Office of Admissions, Office of the Bursar, Financial Aid and Office of the Registrar in order to:

  • Clarify the impact of holds for students
  • Clarify actions and steps for resolution of holds for students
  • Provide consistent information across enrollment services and improve the student experience

Advising Hold Template

Description: You're required to meet with your [dept.] advisor.

Impact: You can't register for classes.

Instructions: To remove the hold, schedule an advising appointment in Buff Portal Advising. After you've met with your advisor, your hold will be removed within [XX hours/days].

Examples

Exploratory Studies Hold

Description: You're required to meet with your assigned academic coach due to your current academic standing.

Impact: You can't register for classes.

Instructions: To remove the hold, schedule an appointment with your academic coach. After you've met with them, your hold will be removed within 24 hours.

A&S S99 Hold

Description: You're on academic suspension.

Impact: You're not eligible to register for Main Campus classes.

Instructions: To enroll in Continuing Education classes, submit a course request. To remove the hold, raise your cumulative GPA to 2.00 or above.

Contact Information: If you have questions, schedule an advising appointment. If your cumulative GPA is now 2.00 or above, contact aacoperations@colorado.edu or call 303-735-5591 to have the hold lifted.
