Always on VPN

Features & Benefits

Always on VPN automatically signs you into the CU Boulder campus VPN when you use your computer on an off campus network. Whether you're working from home, signing on while visiting family remotely, or working from a coffee shop, Always on VPN ensures you're connecting to University applications on a secure network. In addition, if you regularly use applications that always require VPN, you no longer have to log in - just connect to the application!

Cost

There is no cost for this service.

Who can get it

Faculty and Staff using computers enrolled in the Secure Computing framework are automatically enabled with Always On VPN. Windows computers have been enrolled since early 2022, and Macs will have access starting in October 2023.

How to get it

Once installed on your laptop, the Always on VPN will become active after your next reboot. The easiest way to check if it’s installed is to manually reboot and then see if you can access UCB Files without manually connecting to the VPN.

Always On VPN is compatible with VPNs from other institutions using Cisco AnyConnect, but does not work well with other VPN clients. If you need to use a VPN application other than Cisco AnyConnect, select the “Always On VPN - Opt-Out” option in the Self Service application. If you select the "Opt-Out" option from Self Service, you can manually opt back in by selecting the "Opt-In" option at a later time.

Please note: at this time Always On VPN does not work with Marketing Cloud, CU Boulder's eCommunicaiton tool. Users should continue to connect to VPN manually to access that service.
