The Information Security team (OIT-Sec) supports departments at CU Boulder who are authorized by campus to perform internal investigations. This support comes in the form of staff time, expertise, and tools/processes
Individual offerings
Data collection and delivery
OIT Security responds to requests from authorized departments to assist in the collection of data which is in scope for internal investigations. This includes extracting mail from email servers, making forensically sound images of computers and mobile devices, collecting log data from IT systems and gathering other forms of electronic data.
Data analysis and reporting (for select situations)
While much of the investigation support work is focused on delivering data to the investigating department, OIT Security assists with analysis of the data in cases where specialized information technology skills and knowledge may be needed.
Benefits
Providing centralized investigation support services for CU Boulder helps ensure data is collected in a consistent and professional manner which meets the integrity needs of the investigations. OIT Security is able to provide staff who are trained and certified in forensic processes and tools. This high level of service reinforces the integrity of internal investigation processes at CU.
