Overview
Wireless network security is a serious issue. Wireless is not only a shared medium, but one that broadcasts via radio waves, meaning that anyone with a wireless card could monitor your network traffic, including your passwords, account numbers, etc.
In order to protect data sent over the wireless network, please ensure your connection is encrypted using SSL, SSH or VPN.
For more information, visit the Office of Information Security website and OIT's Virtual Private Network (VPN) information.
Securing Your Connection
On Campus
Both CU Secure and eduroam are encrypted, but CU Guest is not (see "Choosing the Right Network" for details).
If you're using CU Guest Wi-Fi on campus, use CU Boulder's VPN service to make a secure connection to any system that requires a login and password.
Off Campus
VPN only encrypts data between your computer and the VPN concentrator on campus. To protect off-campus connections, use other security practices, such as personal firewalls and Endpoint Detection Response (EDR) software.
