Microsoft 365 Multi-Factor Authentication - Set up a Security Key

Use these instructions to set up a Yubi or other Security Key to authenticate with Microsoft 365 Multi-Factor Authentication. To access and update your current Microsoft MFA settings, use the Find and Update Security Info tutorial. Learn more about Microsoft MFA.

Step 1

Log in to the Microsoft 365 My Account page. In the My Account section on the left hand side of the window, select Security Info.

You will be prompted to log in and authenticate.

Click Add sign-in method

Select Security Key

Step 5

Select the type of security key you're using. 

Step 6

  • If your security key is a USB device, insert your security key into the USB port of your device.
  • If your security key is an NFC device, tap your security key to your reader.

Step 7

Type your unique security key PIN into the Windows security box, and then select OK. You'll return to the Setting up your new sign-in method box.

Step 8

Select Next.

Step 9

Return to the Security info page, type a name you'll recognize later for your new security key, and then select Next.

Step 10

Select done to close the page. The Security info page will be updated with your security key information.
