10 Tech Tips for the New Year

Submitted by stauffeg on

It’s a new year, a new semester, and if you’re lucky, you’ve got some new devices. But even if you didn’t get a Galaxy S6 or PS4 over the holidays, these 10 tech tips will help you make the most of CU Boulder’s technology and its support services.

  1. Everyone: Register your portable devices in the CU Boulder laptop anti-theft registration program at the Technology Learning Center or Norlin Commons; registering your devices can help prevent theft and assist in recovering your device if it is lost or stolen.

  2. Everyone: Get free or reduced-price software like Microsoft Office and academic software like AutoCAD and Mathematica.

  3. Everyone: Install campus-provided antivirus on your new devices.

  4. Students: Enroll or re-enroll for the mobile printing service by swiping your Buff OneCard at any print release station.

  5. Students in residence halls: Register your networked gaming device on the campus network by contacting the IT Service Center at 303-735-4357.

  6. Everyone: Get free training at Lynda.com for the latest software, creative and business skills.

  7. Instructors: Check out our D2L Start-of-Semester Tips.

  8. Instructors: Attend one of our workshops to learn more about CU Clickers, D2L or how to make your content more accessible.

  9. Everyone: Get IT help via phone, email and walk-in support for your computing issues.

  10. Everyone: Like and follow OIT on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, and sign up for the OIT News Feed or Service Alerts, so you can get the latest CU Boulder IT news and tips throughout the year.

Have a great 2016!
