Proctorio - Set up a Practice Quiz

If you are using Proctorio for an upcoming Canvas Quiz, we strongly recommend setting up a practice quiz so your students can verify in advance that Proctorio is working on their computer. A number of common issues can be found and solved in advance through the use of a practice quiz. This tutorial will walk you through the steps to add a pre-built practice quiz to your Canvas course.

Layout:

Step

Download this pre-built quiz package: proctorio-practice-quiz-export.zip

Step

Navigate to the Settings area of your Canvas course

Step

From the right-hand panel, click Import Course Content.

Step

For Content Type, choose QTI .zip file.

Step

Next to Source, click Choose File and select the file you downloaded in step 1.

Step

Click the Import button.

Step

After the job shows as completed, hop over to the Set up Proctorio for a Quiz in Canvas tutorial and follow the steps to enable Proctorio for the Proctorio Setup and Verification Quiz you just imported. Keep the time limit at 10 minutes but otherwise use the Proctorio settings you plan to use for the actual exam. When you finish the tutorial, continue to step 8

Step

Decide if the practice quiz should be optional and worth no points, or required and count toward the final grade. To make the quiz optional and worth no points, go to the Assignments area and put the quiz in an assignment category worth 0%. To learn how to do this, visit the Canvas assignment groups tutorial.

Alternatively, if you make no changes, the quiz will be worth one point and count toward the final grade. Either way, we recommend adding a note to the Quiz description to inform students of whether the quiz is required or not.

Step

Publish the quiz by clicking Save and Publish.

Step

Now students can take the practice quiz. Be sure to encourage them to do so before the real exam starts.
