New YuJa video platform to replace Kaltura by the end of fall 2024
OIT is excited to announce that the transition from our existing enterprise video platform, Kaltura, to our new platform, YuJa, is beginning this fall semester. The transition will occur in stages over the next three semesters, fall 2023 to fall 2024, and is being planned in a way to make user experience as smooth as possible. Our vendor integrations with Canvas LMS and PlayPosit allow for a seamless transition from one vendor to the other.
Users who have been creating and editing videos using Kaltura will be receiving an email with additional details about the transition.
Why are we switching video platforms?
By switching enterprise video vendors, we expect users to benefit from the following enhanced features of the YuJa Enterprise Video Platform:
- A more intuitive user experience for instructors and students
- Enhanced security and accessibility for all users
- Improved functionality for content creation, content management, video editing, in-video quizzes, and multi-input video recording
- Additional functionality offering automatic caption creation, text overlays, and video chapter indexing.
How will the new platform be rolled out?
Content currently hosted through Kaltura will be copied over to a mirrored location hosted by Yuja in multiple phases, and the majority of it will be available on both platforms throughout the transition. The bulk of all the Kaltura content created prior to May 2023 has been copied to YuJa in summer 2023. Access to Kaltura will be on request-only basis after the conclusion of the spring 2024 semester, and will end completely at the end of fall 2024.
When can I gain access?
The YuJa Media integration will be available on your Canvas course starting on August 21, 2023. After this date, interested instructors can enable the integration by dragging and dropping the navigation link into their Canvas sandbox course or semester course navigation bar. For help enabling the YuJa integration in your Canvas course, please watch this video tutorial: Enabling YuJa in Canvas.
Where can I learn more about YuJa?
You can learn more about YuJa and find support resources on OIT’s YuJa Service Page. There are also a number of “Introduction to YuJa” training sessions coming up over the next couple weeks. Learn more about these sessions and register on the Academic Technology training page.
