Make Sure your Duo App is Updated by February 2

On Monday, February 2, Duo Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is updating security certificates that will affect some users of the Duo mobile and desktop apps. To continue using the Duo app to authenticate when logging in to services like Buff Portal and MyCUInfo, app users should make sure they have the most recent version of the software installed. If your app is not updated, you may experience an authentication failure the next time you try to log in.

How to update

For most users, the Duo app will automatically update to the latest version of the software and no action is necessary. If you’d like to double check, open the Duo app on your smartphone and click the settings menu in the top left corner. The app version should be listed at the bottom of the panel that opens. If the version listed is 4.085 or higher (as shown below), no action is needed. If lower than 4.085, visit the Apple App Store or Google Play store to download the latest version of the app.

If you use Duo Desktop for Windows, versions older than 7.12 will not update automatically and require a manual update. Visit the Duo website for instructions and links to the download.

Future updates

Starting on April 16, Duo Mobile will no longer support iOS 16 and Android 11. The new minimum supported versions will be iOS 17 and Android 12. While OIT recommends using the Duo app for the most seamless experience, users that cannot upgrade can switch to authenticating via phone number. Follow our Duo - Enroll and set up with phone number tutorial for instructions setting this up.

Visit our Duo MFA service page for more information about Duo and instructions for managing your authentication methods. If you have questions or need help, contact the IT Service Center at oithelp@colorado.edu or 303-735-4357.
