Login page: Browser displays odd URL and can't load CU Guest login page

Impact

After the user opens their available Wi-Fi networks and selects CU Guest, their browser attempts to open the CU Guest login page but displays an odd URL and cannot load the page.

Workaround

This is a known issue for older operating systems. If the page doesn't load after a minute, stop your browser, go back to your Wi-Fi networks and click on CU Guest again. The page should load after one or two more tries.

Workaround

Try the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Toggle your device's Wi-Fi off and on.
  2. Select CU Guest from your available Wi-Fi networks.
  3. Reboot/restart your device.
Internet connection drops repeatedly (Apple devices only)

Impact

When using CU Guest Wi-Fi, the Apple device loses internet access and prompts the user to log in again.

This issue is typically due to the device's Private Wi-Fi Address feature being set to "Rotating." This causes the device to use a unique, rotating MAC address rather than its permanent hardware MAC address, which makes it harder for unsecured Wi-Fi networks to track your activity over time.

However, because CU Guest associates that MAC address with your login credentials, any MAC address change will cause the connection to drop.

Workaround

OIT strongly recommends setting Private Wi-Fi Address to "Off" for CU Guest:
