Update on Monday, August 5, 2024 at 3:15 p.m.: The campus VPN client upgrade has started early for Windows computers managed by Dedicated Desktop Support and Windows secure computers purchased through Marketplace. Users will experience a VPN disconnection and will need to manually reconnect to the new client, which is now called Cisco Secure Client.
--
The campus VPN application, Cisco Secure Client (formerly known as AnyConnect), will undergo a version update from 6 - 7 a.m. on Tuesday, August 6. All campus VPN users will have an updated experience, but those using Cisco Secure Client versions that are older than 5.1.4.74 will be required to go through an auto upgrade process to upgrade to the most current version following the change. Always on VPN, which is used by computers enrolled in Secure Computing, will also be updated during this window.
What you need to do
- After 7 a.m. on August 6, the new version of the Cisco Secure Client should be in place. If you try to connect to VPN, you may notice that it takes a few moments longer to connect due to the update. Once successfully updated, as with most software, OIT recommends restarting your computer to finish the update process.
- Users enrolled in Secure Computing and therefore using Always on VPN may notice a network issue after 7 a.m. on August 6. OIT recommends restarting your computer to ensure Always on VPN updates as well.
- Going forward, search for the rebranded name of the VPN, Cisco Secure Client, when you need to use campus VPN.
If you notice issues with this update and can’t connect to the network or VPN following this update and after restarting your computer, contact the IT Service Center at 303-735-4357 or oithelp@colorado.edu.
