Camp DAO: Building a More Accessible Digital Campus
This June, the Digital Accessibility Office (DAO) hosted its first-ever Digital Accessibility Summer Camp. Staff members, student employees and faculty members from across the CU System, and even some local community colleges, came together to learn about digital accessibility, build practical skills and forge cross-campus connections.

Summer Camp Recap
Over two-and-a-half days, campers explored assistive technologies, manual versus automated accessibility testing, usability testing and document accessibility. Through a demonstration, campers learned how Job Access with Speech (JAWS) works as a screen reader and what to consider when creating accessible digital content, so screen reader users can navigate confidently.

Campers continued building their digital accessibility skills through sessions on captioning, audio description workflows, presentation accessibility and PDF accessibility. A "Progress Over Perfection" panel encouraged campers to approach accessibility as an ongoing learning process, doing the right thing over approaching accessibility as a checkbox to be ticked.
