OIT quickly pivots from Examity to Proctorio to support spring 2020 exams

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) has quickly pivoted from supporting Examity to Proctorio for spring 2020 final exams, after faculty and students encountered technical issues this week. Instructors are now encouraged to use Proctorio, available within Canvas.

Please contact the IT Service Center at oithelp@colorado.edu or call 303-735-4357 with questions about Proctorio or visit the Proctorio page on OIT’s website. Please note that OIT’s IT Service Center will have extended hours to serve your exam support needs.

“We realize that this quick pivot from one tool to another, so close to the start of exams, is disconcerting and stressful to our students and faculty,” said Senior Vice Provost for Academic Planning and Assessment Katherine Eggert, “and we apologize for the disruption.”

Because OIT’s review process of Examity had to be so swift to respond to campus’s move to remote teaching and learning, these recent issues did not surface before this week. The Leeds School of Business and the Department of Computer Science have successfully used Proctorio for several semesters.

“Our challenges related to the COVID-19 continue to unfold,” said Eggert. “I want to assure our students and our faculty that we are confident Proctorio is a reliable solution for online exam proctoring. I also want to thank our OIT staff for their expertise and their commitment to making this change so quickly.”
