Zoom cloud recordings to be deleted after 120 days

Submitted by stauffeg on

The explosive growth of Zoom use has quickly put us on a path to exceed our finite Zoom cloud storage allotment. In order to preserve this limited resource, a new policy will be enacted starting January 31, 2021, whereby all recordings saved to the Zoom cloud, that are older than 120 days, will be deleted. From that day forward, recordings will only be retained for 120 days from the date of recording. This retention policy will not affect Zoom recordings that are stored elsewhere.

There are a number of CU Boulder-provided services that allow long-term storage and hosting of recordings including Microsoft OneDriveMicrosoft Stream, UCB Files and Google Drive. If you relocate your recordings to a hosting service, please take note of the FERPA section of our Zoom FAQ's for guidance that pertains to Zoom and other video recordings.

OIT strongly recommends routine review and archiving of Zoom recordings to make sure you keep what you need. You can run a report to view your recordings over a period of time. Please note that once content has been removed it can not be recovered.

You can find much more information about using Zoom and making recordings on OIT’s Zoom service page. And of course, Zoom provides in-depth information about managing your cloud recordings

If you have any questions about this retention policy or about Zoom in general, please contact the IT Service Center at oithelp@colorado.edu or call 303-735-4357.
