While you may be distracted by thoughts of time off work and visions of turkey and sugar plums, it's important to remember the holiday season is also a busy time of year for cybercriminals taking advantage of organizations having longer times to detect and respond to security incidents. Despite the progress our campus has made deploying endpoint detection and response software, or EDR, to computers and servers across campus and implementing extra layers of email security to prevent phishing from reaching inboxes, there are still plenty of ways attackers can take advantage of our vulnerabilities and wreak havoc.
Steps you can take
- Be extra vigilant through the New Year for any suspicious activity and report anything unusual to the OIT Security team.
- The best course of action to stop a phishing attack is to report it.
- If you suspect you may be the victim of a cybersecurity attack, please send an email directly to the Security team.
We can all enjoy the holidays with peace of mind knowing that if something does happen, we can catch it quickly and deal with it before it gets worse.
