OneDrive - Access a shared file

Use this tutorial to access a file that has been shared directly with you in OneDrive. For additional help, visit Microsoft's Share OneDrive Files and Folders webpage.

This tutorial is intended for CU Boulder affiliates accessing files shared with them by other CU Boulder affiliates. If you do not have a CU Boulder Microsoft account, please see OneDrive - Access a shared file (external users)

Step

From the email notification

When a file is shared directly with you, you will receive a notification email. Open the file by clicking the Open button in the email.

Step

From a shared link

Click on the link, then log in with the account that has been granted access to the file. This will usually be your IdentiKeyUsername@colorado.edu email.

Once you've opened the file for the first time, it will appear in your OneDrive as a shared file.

From OneDrive

Log into https://www.office.com/ using your IdentiKeyUsername@colorado.edu email and your IdentiKey password.

Click on the app launcher in the top left corner of the screen.

Click OneDrive.

Step

Click on Shared in the left-hand sidebar.

Step

Find the file in the list. You can search for the file or owner's name using the search bar. You can also sort by date shared and filter by file type.

You can view all files shared with you by a certain person by clicking on People under Browse files by in the sidebar.

Select their name from the list, or search for them using the search bar.
