Crowdstrike issue leveraged by malicious actors

Submitted by stauffeg on

An issue that has had a global impact on Windows machines running Crowdstrike endpoint detection software is being leveraged by malicious actors through phishing campaigns and fraudulent websites advertising fixes. The CU Boulder campus does not use Crowdstrike in its Windows environment, so you should ignore any messages claiming that you need to update your system. If you receive any communications regarding Microsoft Defender needing to be updated, it is also likely fraudulent because Microsoft Defender is not impacted by this Crowdstrike incident.

If you ever have questions about the legitimacy of an email or about security incidents such as this one, please contact the IT Service Center at oithelp@colorado.edu or 303-735-4357.
