Accellion cyberattack extortion emails

Submitted by stauffeg on

OIT and the Office of Information Security (OIS) are aware that many campus constituents are receiving extortion emails connected to the Accellion cyberattack. The cyberattackers are sending emails demanding payment to prevent the release of personal information. If you receive one of these emails, please do not reply or engage with the senders and delete the email. OIT and OIS is attempting to block these emails and remove them from inboxes.

CU has consulted with law enforcement and does not intend to pay. Doing so would not guarantee information would not be posted or that there would not be additional demands. You can learn more about CU’s response to the cyberattack and the extortion attempts in an April 9 email sent from CU’s Chief Information Security Officer, Dan Jones.
