Over the next six to 12 months, OIT will replace all Avaya phones, on a building-by-building basis, with new Cisco VoIP phones. These phones include many advanced features such as a color display with call history, feature buttons and a high-quality two-way speakerphone. You can learn more about the phones and their features on the VoIP project page and in YouTube videos embedded on the project page.
When your building is scheduled for phone replacement, we will send phone owners a series of emails to prepare them for the replacement. Phone replacement will take place during business hours; however, the replacement process should take only 10 to 15 minutes. During the replacement process, technicians will temporarily disconnect the computer or docking station from the data network, so the new phone can be connected. Phone owners will be asked to save any work before the computer is disconnected, and to test the network connection when it is reconnected. You can help ensure a streamlined replacement process by ensuring clear access to your phone, computer and cabling to the jack. The phone replacement may need to be rescheduled for areas where clear access is not provided.
Unfortunately, speed dial numbers cannot be automatically migrated to the new phones. So phone owners will be encouraged to record their speed dial numbers before their phone is replaced. You will be able to program your speed dial buttons via a web-based portal after your new phone is installed.
If you have questions about the project or your new phone, please contact the IT Service Center at help@colorado.edu or call 303-735-4357 (5-HELP from a campus phone).
