Canvas - Add a Custom Link to the Course Navigation Bar

Use this tutorial to add custom links to your Course Navigation Bar using the Redirect Tool.

Step

Login in to canvas, and navigate to your Canvas course Settings.

Open the Apps tab and select the Redirect Tool.

Select the +Add App button. 

Step

In the Name field, enter the title you would like to appear on the Navbar. Paste the link in the URL Redirect field and select the Show in Course Navigation checkbox.

Click Add App and refresh the page to enable the changes (alternatively, navigate Home and return to Settings).

*Note: If you uncheck Force open in new tab, certain websites may not open in Canvas, like oit.colorado.edu.

Step

Select the Navigation tab. Your new link will appear in the list with the name you entered. Move it anywhere you’d like in the list, however, the Home button must always be first. If you decide to move the link, remember to click Save at the bottom of the page.
