Description

Update on Monday, August 5, 2024 at 3:15 p.m.: The campus VPN client upgrade has started early for Windows computers managed by Dedicated Desktop Support and Windows secure computers purchased through Marketplace. Users will experience a VPN disconnection and will need to manually reconnect to the new client, which is now called Cisco Secure Client.

--

The campus VPN client, Cisco Secure Client (formerly known as AnyConnect), will undergo a version update from 6 - 7 a.m. on Tuesday, August 6. Those using Cisco Secure Client versions that are older than 5.1.4.74 will be required to go through an auto upgrade process to upgrade their client to the most current version following the change. This maintenance will also update Always on VPN.

Please note: It is recommended that users restart their computer following the upgrade.

Impact

  • During the maintenance window, 6 - 7 a.m. on Tuesday, August 6, those with an active VPN may notice a brief interruption in service and be prompted to reconnect. The upgrade will happen automatically during the login process, but it may take several minutes to connect. It is recommended that users restart their computers following the upgrade.
  • Users enrolled in Secure Computing and using Always on VPN may notice a network issue after 7 a.m. on August 6. OIT recommends restarting to ensure required updates are installed.
  • Following the upgrade, users will need to search for “Cisco Secure Client” instead of “Cisco Anyconnect” to find and launch the VPN client.

Affected Services

  • Cisco Secure Client VPN
  • Always on VPN
