Incident Report Summary
On Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, the Regent router experienced technical issues that caused an outage of wired and wireless networking services in Regent, portions of the C4C, 914 Broadway and 924 Broadway. The issue was triggered by higher than normal ambient operating temperatures, due to an in-room air conditioning outage in the Regent building. OIT restarted the router chassis, and wired and wireless services were restored. Subsequently, they replaced routing engines in the chassis.OIT continues to upgrade internal router component hardware and firmware. In addition, they are working with the vendor to determine if future processor card features will allow same-building networking services to be virtualized across more than one distribution router to effectively eliminate a single point of failure.
