Conferencing Services

Overview

OIT can assist you in voice and web conferencing. It is important to differentiate a video conference from a web conference. A web conference involves each participant using web conferencing software on a personal device to connect with other participants using the internet. This can be either a downloaded application on each of the attendees' computers or a web-based application where the attendees access the meeting by clicking on a link distributed by email (meeting invitation) to enter the conference.

Video conferencing uses telecommunications of audio and video to bring people at different sites together for a meeting. This can be as simple as a conversation between two people in private offices (point-to-point) or involve several sites (multi-point) with more than one person in large rooms at different sites. Besides the audio and visual transmission of meeting activities, video conferencing can be used to share computer content.
