Canvas Quiz Solution

Update

The Canvas Quiz Solution project was paused during Spring 2020 in response to more urgent needs to support faculty with remote and hybrid teaching during the pandemic. Ultimately, the decision was made to close the project: COVID-19 made it impossible to move forward on the effort, and the need to identify alternative options lessened substantially over time. We will continue to monitor campus needs, including through results of the 2021 Academic Technology Survey, to help inform if and when to revisit quizzing.

Challenge

This project is part of a continuous improvement effort related to the Canvas Learning Management System on the CU Boulder campus. When the campus made the decision to transition to Canvas, it did so knowing the quiz tool was not one of its strongest features. The campus has since achieved a 90% adoption rate, but OIT-ATAD is striving to ensure this rate and user satisfaction levels only increase.

Our goal with this project is to identify and recommend alternative quizzing solutions that would meet instructors’ needs for creating and/or deploying quizzes in Canvas. Various data sources indicate that some instructors are not satisfied with the existing tool in Canvas, resulting in inefficient or no use.

Alignment with Strategic Goals of the University

This project has indirect alignment with CU’s Strategic Imperatives. The results will enable OIT to have a better understanding of instructors’ issues and needs with campus technologies. Our findings will help OIT  better support instructors with their teaching mission and positively impact students’ experience. Our efforts will help create goodwill among instructors and students with our user-centered approach in addition to strengthening OIT’s customer service and reputation.
