With the start of fall just around the corner, we want to share some tips on making the most out of Canvas and provide updates on Canvas-related tools and services.
Important Updates
- Many integrations in Canvas have been updated to the latest version, including Gradescope, Microsoft Education (previously Microsoft Office 365), Perusall, Turnitin, and W.W. Norton. Visit the Canvas - Integrations page to review specific changes.
- PlayPosit is now WeVideo. Double-check your interactive video assignments to ensure that they are visible and working correctly. If they are not, you may need to re-authorize Canvas Studio to interact with WeVideo.
- New Canvas features
- In May, Canvas released SpeedGrader updates for faster load times, enhanced stability and several user interface refinements.
- Adding custom links to the course navigation menu is now available with a built-in tool. We recommend using this instead of the Redirect Tool.
- Notebook will be available for students on Aug. 15. Students can capture and organize highlights and notes on pages directly within their course content.
- Additional information and updates from OIT are available in this semester's Academic Instruction Guidance.
Prepare Your Canvas Courses
- Combine courses – If you would like to combine courses, follow this guide to request changes: Canvas - Request Course Changes.
- Add content and design – Use the CU Boulder Canvas Template or follow this step-by-step guide: Getting Started with Canvas.
- Support and training – Need help? Explore these on-demand videos or the instructor support page, or attend a Canvas training.
Use Canvas Integrations
Many OIT-supported integrations are available for your Canvas course, including:
- Canvas Studio – Create, upload and manage media, including video quizzing.
- Classroom Capture – Add lecture videos to the Canvas navigation bar.
- Cidi Labs – The new Cidi Labs DesignPlus sidebar is enabled and available for New Quizzes descriptions. Interactive features are available, as well as the QuickStart Wizard.
- iClicker – Increase classroom engagement with iClicker. You can set up the integration and create an assignment grade group for iClicker to publish to.
- WeVideo – Provides advanced video quizzing features that are compatible with Canvas Studio, Vimeo and YouTube media.
- Zoom – Seamlessly integrate Zoom into your Canvas course using our Canvas Integration Guide.
Help Shape the Future of Canvas
Canvas is hosting an in-person Canvas Customer Discovery Session on campus on Monday, Sept. 28, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Faculty will share feedback directly with Instructure's product teams and help shape future Canvas features. Breakfast will be provided. Space is limited, so please complete the interest form to be considered.
