Internet Explorer and Edge Legacy browsers to be retired in June

Submitted by krlu2891 on

Microsoft has announced that the Internet Explorer and Edge legacy browsers will be retired in June 2022, and will no longer receive security updates. If you continue to use Internet Explorer or Edge Legacy after their retirement to access CU Boulder’s Office 365 service or other applications, you may experience diminished functionality.

Before you transition to a new browser, you may receive a notification in your Internet Explorer window reminding you of the upcoming retirement (screenshot at right). After retirement, the next time you upgrade your operating system, Internet Explorer will be uninstalled and replaced with the new Microsoft Edge browser. A similar process will replace Edge Legacy with the new version of Edge.

OIT recommends that all users ensure they are using the most up-to-date version of modern browsers supported by OIT such as Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or Firefox. Our Software Lifecycle page provides guidance for software adoption and retirement including for browsers.

If you have questions about this retirement, or would like assistance with upgrading your browsers, please contact the IT Service Center at oithelp@colorado.edu or call 303-735-4357.
