CU Boulder’s new Remote-Capable Classroom (RCC) Service is a hybrid teaching solution which allows for synchronous (real-time) and asynchronous (on-demand) lecture and presentation delivery. The RCC Service provides instructors with a simple technology solution, a Crestron Mercury X system, that enables the simultaneous delivery of lectures to students that are physically in the classroom as well as students working remotely.

In these upgraded spaces, instructors, using their own computer (which meets recommended system requirements), will be capable of teaching both in-room and remote students at the same time. Plus, they will have the option to record the class for those who could not attend or for students to review at a later time.
OIT is working closely with Academic Scheduling, the Office of Space Optimization and the Academic Instruction implementation team to prioritize the final list of remote-capable classrooms. Remote-Capable Classrooms will be listed on the Hybrid-Capable Classrooms List as they are confirmed and installed.
Assistance in Remote-Capable Classrooms
OIT is introducing a new support model for the fall 2020 semester to assist instructors who teach in Remote-Capable Classrooms. The Technology Copilots will provide assistance to instructors in the classroom as they use teaching technologies and facilitate remote students’ participation. Technology Copilots will be able to assist with the set up and facilitation of the Crestron Mercury A/V systems, Zoom, and iClicker, and ensure remote students have a voice in the classroom.
