R is a free software environment for statistical computing and graphics. The R language is widely used among statisticians for developing statistical software and data analysis. R provides a wide variety of statistical and graphical techniques, and is highly extensible and well-supported. It runs in Linux, Windows and MacOS.
R is an increasingly popular alternative, for many purposes, to commercial statistical packages like SPSS, SAS, and Stata. A growing number of courses either teach R or encourage its use.
Several user-friendly freeware products make R easy to use for basic statistical work as well as the more powerful analysis possible with R. Among these are two highly recommended products RStudio and jamovi; like R itself, both are free and open, and available for Linux, Windows, and MacOS.
There is no fee to end-user (Department, Faculty/Staff, or Student).
