For university-owned computers, and for faculty/staff personal computers, any recent version of Microsoft Windows (or Office) may be downloaded from a campus server, and installed by the user or by OIT's Desktop Support. This is provided to the entire campus as a common good.
Note: For personal computers, students and faculty/staff can download Microsoft Office to their computers and mobile devices through the Office 365 Pro Plus program.
New workstations and tablets from Dell, Lenovo, and others come with a version of the Windows operating system already installed. However, upgrades and downgrades (to earlier versions) may generally be costly or restricted.
Thanks to a campus EES agreement, there are no such restrictions for university-owned and employee work computers. Users can download and install upgrades or downgrades as convenient.
This includes Windows installers and licensing for use on Mac hardware via BootCamp or virtual machine software like VMware and Fusion.
The campus EES agreement provides licenses as a common good for select Microsoft products and upgrades. For workstations managed by OIT / Dedicated Desktop Support, the standard campus version of Office and Windows upgrades are available from our local EES download site.
