Description

The Computing Center firewall migration on Monday, November 20 could cause network and service outages for many of the campus’s online services. Over the last few months, OIT has taken extensive steps to minimize overall impact, but service disruptions are expected during the maintenance window to many online services that are dependent on the Computing Center firewall. This maintenance is a necessary step in upgrading end of life hardware, as well as updating outdated connections between applications. 

Impact

During the maintenance window, starting at 5 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Monday, November 20, it’s possible that various CU online services and applications may become unavailable due to a firewall policy dependency issues that were not accurately documented. The dependency issue will be investigated and resolved by the firewall migration team in OIT. Possible impacted services are listed below in the Affected Services section.

Affected Services

The following services are dependent upon the Computing Center Firewall and may experience interruptions during the maintenance window:

  • Federated Identity Service/Shibboleth (fedauth.colorado.edu) and services that rely on it for authentication, including: 
    • Adobe
    • Buff Portal
    • Buff Portal Advising
    • Buff Pass
    • Canvas
    • Classroom Capture
    • CS Moodle
    • Digication
    • CU Salesforce
    • Docusign
    • LinkedIn Learning
    • MyCUInfo
    • Qualtrics (will not affect recipients ability to respond to surveys)
    • VoiceThread
    • WEPA Printing
    • Zoom
  • Enterprise Database (EDB)
  • Servers managed by Systems Engineering
