Description

UPDATE 3/25/21, 9 a.m.: The upgrade to network switches is complete and IT service managers are testing services. We're aware there are a few services that are unavailable and are investigating the issue.

On Thursday, March 25, OIT will upgrade network switches in the Computing Center Data Center making many campus services intermittently unavailable between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. that morning. OIT has taken measures to minimize the disruption of this upgrade; however, upgrading network switches will necessitate many campus services being taken offline to ensure storage and service integrity. March 25 was chosen for this update due to it being a wellness day with no classes, yet also being a day when the many staff who administer the affected services are available to manage and test them. This upgrade and downtime will allow the replacement of switches that are approaching end-of-life with new network switches.

Impact

Many campus services will be unavailable for approximately two hours, while others will be intermittently unavailable for less than a minute. Services that are provided by vendors from off campus locations, in addition to the campus wired and wireless networks, will be unaffected.

Commonly used services that will not be impacted include:

  • G Suite and Gmail accounts
  • Microsoft Office 365 applications (including Teams)
  • Exchange email accounts
  • Canvas
  • Zoom
  • MyCUInfo & Buff Portal

Affected Services

Many campus services. Due to the scope of this update, it is not possible to list all the services that will be affected by this work.
