Exchange Online Account Information
Faculty and Staff
New faculty, staff and officer/professional positions will be automatically provisioned with a CU Boulder email account. After receiving an IdentiKey, new users will generally receive an email account within one business day.
If a new employee has a previous IdentiKey, submit the New Exchange Mailbox Request Form in OIT's Messaging and Collaboration Request portal to have an email account created for them.
Visit the Accounts page for more information about Microsoft 365 account provisioning.
Student Employees
Student employees could use their primary CU Boulder email account for email and calendaring, but many departments prefer to request a secondary account for them to isolate work-related messages and tasks to a separate account that can be terminated when the student employee leaves the department.
To request a secondary email account for student employees, the student's supervisor should submit the Student Employee Account Request Form on OIT's Messaging and Collaboration Request portal to create the account.
Please note: You will need to provide the student's IdentiKey to submit the request.
Sponsored Affiliates
In most instances, campus affiliates who are classified as a "Person Of Interest" (POI) by Human Resources will receive a Microsoft 365 account. A department's human resources liaison should be able to tell you if an account has been issued. Departments can request a Microsoft 365 account for a POI by contacting the IT Service Center.
Secondary Accounts
Faculty and staff can request a secondary email account to be used for a group or as a generic email address for a department. Submit the O365 Secondary Mailbox Request Form in OIT's Messaging and Collaboration Request Portal to get started.
Secondary accounts are assigned to one primary owner. If you need to change the owner of a secondary account, contact OIT to request an ownership change.
Resource Accounts
Resources are accounts made specifically for rooms, equipment or other shared property within a department. Visit the Resource Accounts page for information on creating and using resource accounts.
