Description

Service restored at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 13: Emails from the @colorado.edu domain are now being accepted and delivered as normal by commercial email service providers.

Service issue updated at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 13: Delivery times for emails sent from the @colorado.edu domain to Google and Yahoo are showing improvements. It is believed that improved performance is being seen with other email providers as well, but confirmation of this is pending further testing. More information will be provided here as it becomes available.

Service issue reported at 6:57 a.m.: Email delivery from @colorado.edu accounts to Yahoo, AOL, and Comcast accounts is being reported as delayed or blocked. Delivery to other email provider addresses could be affected as well.

This issue is due to one or more @colorado.edu accounts being compromised in a recent phishing attack and subsequently used as unwilling agents to deliver spam, resulting in some service providers blocking or delaying mail from the @colorado.edu domain. OIT is working to restore delivery to all commercial Internet providers.

Impact

Email originating from @colorado.edu addresses being sent to Yahoo, AOL, Comcast, and possibly other email service provider addresses is being delayed or blocked.
