VoIP Upgrade to Add Feature Enhancements

Submitted by stauffeg on

The campus VoIP phone service will undergo a firmware upgrade on Friday, September 15, after which owners of Cisco 8851 phones (most office phones) will notice a number of enhancements to phone features. The upgrade to the VoIP firmware is necessary to eliminate a network looping issue and will make VoIP phone services unavailable on the Cisco 8851 phones for approximately five minutes during after-business hours.

After the firmware has been upgraded, all Cisco 8851 VoIP phones will have new display screens that are designed to make it easier to quickly see key information. For instance, after the update, the incoming call screen will highlight the caller’s information in an orange box with a larger font and different background color. For those who have phone expansion modules, the screen background on these modules will now be gray, making it easier to read.
