Change in Antivirus Protection on University-owned Macs

Submitted by jach7912 on

Microsoft recently announced they are ending support for System Center Endpoint Protection and, as a result, OIT is transitioning to ESET Endpoint Antivirus for all university-owned Mac systems. This does not apply to personally-owned machines.

Dedicated Desktop Support (DDS) customers will automatically have System Center Endpoint Protection removed and ESET Endpoint Antivirus installed on DDS-managed systems after January 2, 2019.

Non-DDS customers

If Microsoft System Center Endpoint Protection or another existing antivirus software is installed on your university-owned Mac(s), it should be uninstalled and ESET Endpoint Antivirus for Mac should be installed. Visit the OIT website for step-by-step instructions.

If you are unsure if your machine has antivirus protection, check the icons on the right side of the menu bar. System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection is a green box with a white shield in the middle. ESET appears as this icon in the menu bar:

After December 31, university-owned Macs will stop receiving updates from Microsoft and will no longer be protected from malware if System Center Endpoint Protection is installed.

Please contact the IT Service Center at help@colorado.edu or 303-735-4357 (HELP) if you have any questions related to this change or need help with installation.
