Submitted by stauffeg on

The new school year is here and so much promise awaits. Technology will play a key role in your success. So here are the top tips to help you make the most of CU Boulder’s technology and support services.

  1. Get free IT help via phone, email and walk-in support for your computing issues.
  2. Check our student shopping list to make sure you have the essentials.
  3. Register your portable devices in the CU Boulder laptop anti-theft registration program. Registering your devices can help prevent theft and assist in recovering your device if it is lost or stolen. Just bring your device to the Technology Learning Center or Norlin Commons Help Desk.
  4. Get free or reduced-price software like Microsoft Office and academic software like AutoCAD and Mathematica.
  5. Install campus-recommended antivirus on your new devices.
  6. Install CU Boulder’s VPN so you can connect to the campus network and access restricted campus resources when you’re off campus.
  7. Check our tips to help you find your way in Canvas and Desire2Learn.
  8. Get free training: for the latest software tutorials, and creative and business skill development check out Lynda.com; for personal and professional skill development check out Skillsoft.
  9. If you have trouble registering your devices on the campus network, contact the IT Service Center at 303-735-4357 or complete the network troubleshooting form.
  10. Like and follow OIT on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, and sign up for the OIT News Feed or Service Alerts, so you can get the latest CUBoulder IT news and tips throughout the year.
