Turnitin - Grademark Integration in Canvas

This tutorial goes through the process of using the GradeMark Integration of Turnitin for your Canvas course.

Step

Create a new assignment by clicking the + Assignment button.

Set the assignment’s Submission Type to External Tool then locate the box labeled Enter or Find an External Tool URL and click Find. This will open up a list of External Tools available.

Step

Scroll down in this window to select Turnitin, then click Select.

Step

On the Assignment Inbox page interface you can adjust further settings and where you will see information regarding students’ submissions.

Click Settings in the upper-righthand corner of the page.

Adjust the Start Date, Due Date or Feedback Release Date, which determine the time and date when the assignment is made available, when it is due, and when feedback is released to students.

Select Optional Settings at the bottom of the page to adjust additional settings.

A number of Turnitin-specific options are displayed which have default settings selected. It is recommended to leave these default settings as they are unless specific assignment needs require you to do otherwise.

Selecting Standard Paper Repository from the Submission Settings dropdown changes whether or not your students’ submissions will be stored in the Standard Paper Repository. This is the collection of documents against which submissions are compared to create an Similarity Report.

Other Submission Settings include:

  • Allow Late Submissions which allows students to submit assignments after the due date.
  • Enable grammar checking using ETS® e-rater® technology automatically check students’ grammar and spelling.
  • Attach a rubric associates a specific rubric with a Turnitin assignment.

Step

Select Generate reports immediately from the Similarity Report dropdown menu to choose when Originality Reports are generated and whether or not students are allowed to submit additional items prior to the due date.

Other Similarity Report options include:

  • Allow students to view Similarity Reports to allow students to to see the similarity report for their document.
  • Select specific exclusions for the Similarity Report including bibliographic materials, quoted materials, small sources.

Select Submit to save your any changes you make.

Step

Once students have submitted assignments to Canvas, you can view Similarity Reports on the Assignment Inbox page.
