OIT has recently developed Secure Computing Quick Start Guides that will soon be included with each new Dell and Mac computer purchased through the CU Marketplace. The Quick Start Guides provide best practices and a link to step-by-step instructions for the initial set-up of new Windows and Mac computers. These guides were created in response to feedback from campus desktop support professionals and new computer recipients.
Starting in August, each new computer will automatically come with a Quick Start Guide. This will add a $5 to $7 charge to Dell computers. There may be an additional charge added to Macs ordered through CDW in the future, but for now, there is no additional charge for Mac computers. The Quick Start guide costs will be reimbursed by OIT per speedtype on a quarterly basis for orders placed during the 2025 fiscal year. After this fiscal year, covering the Quick Start Guide cost will be the responsibility of ordering departments and will no longer be reimbursed by OIT. OIT is sharing this information with campus leadership, IT professionals, and finance and accounting staff.
