Description

Service Restored on 5/20/2026 at 11:30 AM: Canvas has remained stable and available since May 8, and a majority of Canvas integrations have now been restored. Some less frequently used integrations are still in the process of being restored. OIT will continue working with vendors to complete the remaining restoration efforts as part of normal operational support.

The Canvas Integration Status page will continue to be updated as remaining integrations are restored. Additional information and updates will also continue to be shared via Canvas announcements as needed.

Instructure, the parent company of Canvas, continues to investigate the initial security incident. As CU Boulder learns more information, we will share it with the campus community via OIT News and other campus channels. While Canvas is safe to use, the campus community should continue to take precautions due to the risk of Canvas-related phishing scams

We appreciate your patience and understanding throughout this disruption and recovery effort. Please contact OIT with any further questions or if there is anything we can do to further assist you.

Service Issue Updated on 5/8/2026 at 7:20 PM: After a careful evaluation of Instructure’s reinstatement of Canvas following yesterday’s worldwide service disruption, CU Boulder has restored access to Canvas. As we continue to assess the strength and integrity of all systems offered through Canvas, some tools that were integrated with Canvas may not be functional. Additional information about any tools that are temporarily unavailable in Canvas will be communicated on the Canvas announcements page and in this service alert.

For additional information, please visit https://www.colorado.edu/canvas and the OIT News page with FAQs.

We apologize for the inconvenience this service disruption has caused. Please contact OIT at 303-735-4357 or OITHelp@colorado.edu with any questions or if there is anything we can do to assist you during this time.

Service Issue Updated on 5/8/2026 at 1:45 PM:  Canvas and Parchment are still unavailable on our campus while campus leadership continues to assess reinstatement of the platforms. We expect to share an update on platform restoration later today.

Service Issue Updated on 5/7/2026 at 6:00 PM: Canvas is still unavailable. There is no new information at this time. We continue to work with the vendor to resolve the issue and will provide additional updates tomorrow unless new information becomes available before then.

Service Issue Reported on 5/7/2026 at 2:15 PM: CU is aware that Canvas is unavailable and the webpage temporarily displayed a message regarding a security breach of Canvas. The site is now displaying a maintenance message. CU is working with the vendor, who controls the platform, to investigate and resolve the issue. There is no current timeline for resolution. This incident is impacting Canvas instances globally and is part of the larger data breach reported on Monday. We will provide additional updates as they are available.

Due to its connection to Canvas through parent company Instructure, CU will also disable access to Parchment, the platform used to generate official transcripts. Again, we will provide updates as they are available.
