CU Secure Wi-Fi - Known Issues

 New Wi-Fi Now Available Campuswide

As of Dec. 17, 2025, the new CU Secure and CU Guest Wi-Fi networks are live in all campus buildings. eduroam is still available, but UCB Wireless and UCB Guest were discontinued. Learn how to connect to campus Wi-Fi.

Personal and Non-Secure Computing Devices

The following issues may occur when a user first tries to connect to CU Secure Wi-Fi on their personal or non-Secure Computing device.

User is prompted to log in to CU Secure, but authentication fails

Issue

The issue will occur when the CU Secure certificate/app has not been successfully installed on the device and the user tries to select CU Secure from their available Wi-Fi networks.

  1. The user opens their available Wi-Fi networks and selects CU Secure.
  2. A system prompt asks them for their login credentials.
  3. After entering their credentials, a system notification related to the server's certificate appears.
  4. After the user clicks through the notification, a connection failure message appears.

Resolution

To connect to CU Secure Wi-Fi, your device must have the CU Secure certificate/app installed.

  1. Ensure your device is connected to the internet. If you're on campus and can't connect to eduroam or a cellular network, start by logging in to CU Guest:
    1. Open your available Wi-Fi networks and select CU Guest.
    2. Request guest Wi-Fi credentials or, if available, log in with your IdentiKey username and password.
  2. Go to the CU Secure certificate download page either directly or through wifi.colorado.edu.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the CU Secure certificate/app on your device.
  4. Once installation is complete, your device should connect to CU Secure automatically when in range.

If this does not resolve the issue, contact the IT Service Center at oithelp@colorado.edu or 303-735-4357.

Device won't switch from CU Guest to CU Secure after installing the certificate/app

Issue

When a device connects to CU Guest, some devices will default to "automatically connect" to it. After the user installs the CU Secure certificate/app, the device will continue to prefer CU Guest instead of CU Secure.

The issue is not resolved by toggling the device's Wi-Fi off and on, manually selecting CU Secure from the available Wi-Fi networks (users may be prompted to log in to CU Secure, but the login will fail), or restarting/rebooting the device.

Resolution

To resolve this CU Guest auto-connection issue:

  1. Open your available Wi-Fi networks and select CU Guest.
  2. Turn off Auto reconnect.
  3. Return to your available Wi-Fi networks and toggle your device's Wi-Fi off and on.
  4. Select CU Secure.
  5. After a moment, your device should successfully connect to CU Secure. If your device prompts you to log in instead of connecting, try restarting/rebooting your device.

In the future, your device should connect to CU Secure automatically whenever you're in range.
