Windows 10 Rolls Out July 29

Submitted by stauffeg on

The eagerly anticipated rollout of Microsoft Windows 10 is scheduled for Wednesday, July 29. The Office of Information Technology (OIT) has been testing the new operating system while it was in early-release status in order to confirm compatibility with key campus services. OIT has currently listed Windows 10 as software that is in the early-adoption phase on its Software Life Cycle page.

As is the case with most new operating system releases, there are initially a number of incompatibilities with commonly used applications. As more testing reveals that Windows 10 compatibility issues have been resolved, Windows 10 will become “recommended” by OIT and that will be reflected on the Software Life Cycle page. You can learn more about Windows 10, including new features, compatibility issues and how to install the software, in the Microsoft Software section of our Personal Computing & Devices area.

If you are running an enterprise version of Windows 7 or 8, you should upgrade to Windows 10 with install files made available through CU Boulder. These install files will be made available as soon as they are provided to higher education institutions--we expect this to be in early August. You will need administrative privileges to install the software. Here is how you can check your version of Windows.

If your computer is managed by Dedicated Desktop Support, your technician will soon be in touch with you and your department about upgrade options for Windows 10.
