Cisco VPN Upgrade: Downtime & New Client to Install

Hello Cisco VPN user,

On Tuesday, March 25 from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m., the Office of Information Technology (OIT) will be upgrading the hardware that hosts the CU Boulder Cisco VPN service. This upgrade will bring several improvements to the Cisco VPN service including high availability and site diverse design; support for Mavericks 10.9, Linux 64-bit, and Windows 8; and resolution of known security issues.

During the one-hour upgrade maintenance window, the Cisco VPN service will be unavailable. If you require the ability to access the CU Boulder network via VPN during this time, you may want to consider using an alternate VPN service, such as the Web-based VPN service located at https://cuvpn.colorado.edu.

Once the hardware upgrade is complete, please visit our VPN website to download the latest Cisco VPN client called "AnyConnect" (this client won't be available for download until the morning of March 25). Although your existing Cisco client should continue to work with the new Cisco VPN hardware, we strongly recommend you upgrade to "AnyConnect" not only to ensure long-term compatibility but also to address outstanding security vulnerabilities.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the upcoming Cisco VPN upgrade, please don't hesitate to contact the IT Service Center at oithelp@colorado.edu or 303-735-4357 (5-HELP from a campus phone).

Best regards,

Office of Information Technology
