EDR - Download and Install Microsoft Defender for Windows Onboarding Package

Follow the instructions below to learn how to download and install the Defender for Endpoint Onboarding Package for Windows. An IdentiKey is required for downloading the Onboarding Package and you must have administrative permissions to install. No product key is required.

  • Windows 10 or newer
  • Windows Server 2016 or newer

Please Note: This process is specific for stand-alone Windows computers that are NOT part of Secure Computing and are not part of the Campus Active Directory.

Step

Download the UCB Defender for Endpoint Onboarding package. You will be prompted to login with your IdentiKey username and password.

If you are using Edge to download the Onboarding Package you may need to manually allow the download to be installed.

Step

Click the download icon in the Edge Menu bar. Then click the 3-dot icon next to the file and select Keep from the drop-down menu. 

Step

Hit the Show More drop-down and then select Keep Anyway.

Step

To install, open your downloads folder and double-click on the installer to launch the application.

Step

When prompted by Windows, click yes to begin the installation.

Step

The installer will open a terminal window to show you the progress of the onboarding package. Please wait until the window says Successfully onboarded machine to Microsoft Defender for Endpoint

The command prompt will automatically close once complete. If you do not receive a success message, please contact the IT Service Center at 303-735-4357 or oithelp@colorado.edu for further assistance.

After installation, be sure to Enable Microsoft Defender.
