Browser Behavior
Like most of her friends and coworkers, Erin loved surfing the Internet. When she wasn’t working, eating, or sleeping, most of her free time was spent online shopping, digitally managing her finances, and posting pictures of her cats. Despite how much time she spent cruising from site to site, it rarely occurred to her to be concerned about the validity and safety of the sites she visited. However, a visit from an IT employee at work convinced her that the Internet can be almost as dangerous as it is useful. The first step to make her web surfing safer was to update her Internet browser and enable website filtering. Then, in order to protect herself from malicious software, she removed unnecessary add-ons, browser helpers and “mysteryware.” Now, thanks to a few simple choices around her surfing habits, her browser, her computer, and her data are a little safer.
