VPN - Connect with Cisco IPSec for Mac

Overview

The instructions below demonstrate how to connect to the VPN service using native functionality for Mac OSX. However, due to security concerns and the need to reconfigure your connection in the future, OIT does not recommend using this ability, but rather recommends users connect using the Cisco AnyConnect client.

Step

Open System Preferences.

Step

Click the Network icon.

Step

Click the + button.

Step

From the Interface drop-down menu, select VPN.

Step

From the VPN Type drop-down menu, select Cisco IPSec.

Step

Type in a service name, then click the Create button.

Step

Type vpn.colorado.edu in the Server Address

Note: Advanced users and system administrators should enter vpn.colorado.edu/limited in this field.

Step

Enter your CU Login Name and IdentiKey password.

Step

Click the Authentication Settings button.

Step

Enter in the Shared Secret and the Group Name, then click OK. To get this information go to the following URLs:

Click Connect (you may be prompted to apply changes, if so click Apply).  

Step

If prompted, re-enter your CU Login Name and IdentiKey credentials, then click OK. You will now be connected to the VPN.

Note: Connect in the future by selecting this VPN name from the left side Network menu.
