Gmail - Configure Apple Mail OS 10.9 and Newer

This tutorial demonstrates how to configure Apple Mail on versions of Mac OS X 10.9 and newer for Gmail accounts.

Step 1

Before configuring Apple Mail, you may need to enable IMAP in Gmail (if you've already done this, skip to step 3). To do this, log into the Gmail web client, and from the cog menu select Settings.

Step 2

Go to the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab and under IMAP Access, select Enable IMAP. Scroll down, select Save changes then close the window.

Step 3

After ensuring IMAP is enabled, open Apple Mail and from the Mail Menu, select Add Account

Step 4

Select Google, then click Continue.

Step 5

In the Enter your email field, enter your address, (not then click Next.

Step 6

Enter your IdentiKey password, then click Next.  

Step 7

You can choose additional apps on your computer to use with your CU Boulder account. When you are finished making your selections, click Done

Step 8

Your account will now be configured and mail will begin to sync.

Step 9

Some users may need to change their app security settings when using non-google/android email programs. While signed into your Gmail account in a browser, open the Google Apps menu, then select My Account.

*Note: You should try to connect your account without changing these settings and change only if the previous steps don't work.

Step 10

In the Sign-in & Security section, select Connected apps & sites.

Step 11

Scroll down to the Allow less secure apps section and change the setting to On. You should now be able to connect your account to an email client.
