Occasionally, an instructor may need to change some of the setting of a grade item, for example if a new grade category is created and the grade item needs to fall under said category. The documentation below demostrates how to edit a grade item's settings.
Log into your course and from the Assessments drop-down menu click on Grades.
Click on the link to the grade item that you wish to edit.
Change an items title by typing a new title in the Name: text box.
If categories are set up in a grade book, instructors can place a grade item in a category by selecting from the Category: drop-down menu.

Many other grade item settings can be adjusted including:
To change when a grade item is visible click on the Restrictions tab.
Define whether or not you want to limit the times that an item is available for student viewing.
Also, if desired, attach release conditions for an item (ex. once item A has been submitted, item B can then be seen by a student)
When you have completed editing your grade item settings, click Save and Close.
