You must create a module before you can add topics. You can create modules within existing modules to establish a deeper hierarchy.

This tutorial is operating system independent.

Step 1

From the course homepage, click Content on the navbar to access the Manage Content page.

Step 2

In the New Module text box, enter the title of your new module. Hit enter when done typing your title. 

Step 3

You should see the Module Added Successfully box as shown to the left. 

Step 4

If you would like to add a description to your module, click the Add a description... text box. 

Step 5

Enter your desired description and when you are done click the Update button. 

Step 6

If you want your module to be a sub-module under one of your other modules, click the drop-down menu next to your module title and select Move To

Step 7

Select the Module you would like to be the parent of your new module and click the Move button.

Additional Note

D2L by default only loads the first 20 modules, or first 20 topics/files within a module, when viewing course files in the Content area. To see additional content, click the Load More button at the bottom of the content/module area.


Option Procedure
Set date/time restrictions Click the Add restrctions... field and set the Start DateEnd Date and a Due Date.
Set release conditions
  1. Click the Add restrctions... field.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • To set pre-existing release conditions to the topic, click Browse and select the conditions from the list in the pop-up window.
    • To create new conditions and attach them to the topic, click Create. For details on creating release conditions refer to Release Conditions.
  3. Choose whether access to the module is dependent on meeting all or any of your conditions.
